Harold John Shelton, Jr.

Harold “John” Shelton Jr., 80, passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025. Born in Delaware County on January 24, 1945, John lived a full and meaningful life centered around service, family, and simple joys.

John was the beloved husband of Barbara Shelton, with whom he shared 47 years of marriage after their wedding on December 15, 1978. He was a devoted father to Tracy Williams and her husband Robert Williams, and to his son James Cannon. He was a proud grandfather to Jessica Markward and her husband Dave Markward, and to Kristi Reinhardt and her husband Marty Reinhardt. John’s joy grew with each new generation, and he adored his great-grandchildren: Madelyn, Connor, and Martin, with another great-granddaughter expected any day. He is also survived by his brother, Tommy Shelton.

John served his country with pride in the United States Navy aboard the USS Hancock and he was never tired of sharing stories from his time in the service. His military duty remained one of his greatest honors throughout his life.

After completing his naval service, John worked more than 25 years as a machine mechanic for Wyeth, where he was known for his skill, dedication, and problem-solving talent. He could tinker with anything — especially cars — and took great satisfaction in getting things running again. He also enjoyed trading in for a new car on a regular basis, a hobby that always made him smile.

John loved time with his family above all else, and he found joy in golf, pool, and tennis, as well as in the everyday moments shared with those he loved.

A service honoring John’s life will be held at a later date at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, where he will receive an Honorable Three-Volley Salute in recognition of his proud military service.

John will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
