Helen Marie Lewis (nee King) peacefully passed away on May 21, 2020, at Regina Nursing Center, Norristown, PA, where she received excellent, loving care for the past several years of her life. She had just turned 95 years old. Helen was born in Broomall, PA to the late James and Marion (nee McLaughlin) King. She was the 9th of 10 children (5 sisters and 4 brothers), all of whom preceded her in death. Helen worked for many years as a seamstress before retiring in 1987. She then embarked on her proudest career as a foster grandparent in the Norristown Area School District. Helen touched many lives during her 15 years with the program. She loved the children and teachers like family. Helen had many interests. She was very talented at knitting and crocheting and could easily make anything. What we remember most, though, is that she made the best blankets up until just a few years ago! She loved visiting Lancaster County, Atlantic City, going to the casinos with her sisters, going for walks, flower gardening (especially gladiolas), getting her nails done and shopping. Helen was known to her family for being extremely competitive when playing any game! She was a champion shuffleboard player, and was still bowling at age 83! She also loved badminton, cards and board games with her family, especially when she won! Helen is survived by her children: Janet Marie Sweeney (William Moser), George Francis Lewis, Christine Ellen Sowers, Diane Stafford (Patrick) and Judy Ann Petraline (Gerald Supplee). She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and their spouses plus 19 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and siblings, she is preceded in death by her beloved dog, Chrissy. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
