Helen M. Meehan

December 18, 1932 — November 11, 2021

Helen Luff Meehan died on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at her residence in Wyncote, PA surrounded by her family. Her son, daughters, grandchildren, and devoted caregiver Olfa were at her side. Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Patrick. Born in Philadelphia on December 18, 1932 to Martin and Beatrice Seningen Luff, Helen was the fifth of seven children and was devoted to her six brothers and sisters. She is predeceased by sisters Jean Daniel, Anne Gartland, and brothers Thomas and Martin Luff. Surviving are sisters Beatrice (Tess) Campbell and Patricia Morris Douglas. Helen graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Philadelphia, PA. As a child, she spent summers at her parent’s home on the bay in Avalon, New Jersey. She was awarded the title of “Miss Avalon” in 1951. Helen was a beautiful, glamorous, fashionable woman even in her last years. Avalon remained her favorite summer destination. Helen’s first marriage ended in divorce. She was a single mother who went back to work to support her family. Divorce was not common at the time, especially for Catholics. This experience led her to be a more tolerant and generous person, understanding about the unexpected difficulties life could present. In 1964, Helen married Patrick Meehan, they were happily married for 35 years until his death on November 30, 1999. Helen was devoted to her children, Robert Link (Cathy Rowland), Carole Link Medoff (Howard predeceased), Linda Kirk (Christopher), and Kathleen Richardson (Randall).
