Helen Mary (Thomas) Pollizzotti passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Neshaminy Manor in Warrington, PA. She was 90 years young. Helen was a former member of St. Augustine R.C. Church in Bridgeport and was a retired clerk for National Liberty Life Ins, Frazer PA. But this is only part of the story.....
Born in Norristown, PA on December 27, 1934 she was the daughter of the late John Joseph and Anna Mary (Maguire) Thomas. The youngest of 5 children, Helen's strawberry blonde locks reflected her playful personality and joy of life, so it's no surprise that she lived the longest. Helen would often speak so fondly of her father who was the Chief Mechanic for the Reading Railroad Southeastern, PA Div. One favorite memory was of her father coming home covered in coal dust and oil after a long day of servicing steam locomotives at the Bridgeport Roundhouse. Although exhausted, his sense of humor and good-natured teasing always made young Helen smile. Throughout her life, she embraced these traits as well, much to her proper Mother's chagrin. Truly a child at heart her entire life, Helen was a huge fan of animated cartoons and could often be heard singing the opening song of "Little Lulu" for her grandchildren. She had a beautiful voice and often sang with the Church Choirs or just along with the radio from Christmas songs like "Oh Holy Night" to her rousing rendition of "Grandmom Got Run Over By A Reindeer". Helen was creative, crafty and had a genuine love for sewing. She often made Christmas dresses for her daughters, costumes for Halloween and High School Productions and last, but not least on occasion, for the Mummers Parade. She sewed clothes for baby dolls, Barbie dolls and would gift baby blankets for family and friends.
Always smiling and full of life, Helen brought joy to all around her. As Membership Director of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, her recruitment antics were legendary. Be it dressed as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, or her alter ego, the socialite, Lydia Pinkum, recruitment grew under her direction. Helen also had a genuine love for dancing from the Jitterbug to the Polka, she was incredibly light on her feet and always was looking to learn new dances like the Electric Slide and Country Line Dancing. Helen was also a member of Our Lady of the Rosary R.C. Church in Coatesville, PA where she attended daily Mass for over 20 years. Helen would often bring her friends apple cider spiced donuts, but true to her character, the real spice was Helen herself, commenting "just remember, you can't eat these donuts until AFTER Mass!".
She was the wife of the late Richard William Balas and the late John Pollizzotti. Surviving are her daughters, Cheryl Ann Balas and Maryellen (Balas) Amendola, two grandchildren, Marco and Julia Amendola, Son-in-Law Dana Amendola, her Niece Barbara Conte and many other loving family members and friends.
Helen's family will receive relatives and friends at the Bacchi Funeral Home, 805 DeKalb Street (Route 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Saturday, November 1, 2025 from 1:00-3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Helen would like you all to make time for your family and friends, laugh often, and smile when you think of her.....but wait a while to ask for her help as she's a newbie and hasn't earned her angel wings yet.
Arrangements are by The Bacchi Funeral Home, Bridgeport, PA. Condolences to the family at www.bacchifh.com
