Henry B. Poor passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at his residence in Newtown Square, PA. He was 91. Mr. Poor was an educator who worked most recently as the Director of the Ambassador Program for Psi Upsilon Fraternity in Newtown Square. He was previously their Executive Director in Indianapolis, IN and Paoli, PA. Previously, Mr. Poor was the headmaster of the Fountain Valley School in Colorado Springs, CO and Montclair Academy in Montclair, NJ. He also worked in the Development offices of the Episcopal Academy in Merion Station, PA and Amherst College in Amherst, MA. Henry began his career in education as an assistant headmaster to Frank Boyden at Deerfield Academy in Deerfield, MA.Henry was a member of St. David's Episcopal Church in Wayne, PA, the Fraternity Executives Association and the North American Interfraternity Conference, both in Indianapolis, IN, the Gamma Chapter of Psi Upsilon Corporation in Amherst, MA and the Council for Spiritual & Ethical Education in Portland, OR. Henry was also a member of the King of Prussia Rotary Club where he was a past president from 1995 to 1996, a member of their Board of Directors, the Director Emeritus and he was active with the District 7450 Rotary Foundation.Born in Passaic, NJ on December 31, 1917, he was a son of the late Edward Eri Poor, Jr. and Camilla Elizabeth (Smith) Poor. He was the husband of Catherine H. (Ross) Merwin of Peterborough, NH and the late Mary (Ames) Poor, who died in 2008.Surviving are his family including a son, Thomas M. Poor and his partner, Jessie Chai of Norwell, MA; two daughters, Sally P. Owen and her husband, Harry of Breckenridge, CO and Joan P. Clarke and her husband, Lawrence of Aurora, CO; a step-son, William E. Kellar and his wife, Peggy Bliss of Arlington, MA; three step-daughters, Lucia A. Kellar of New York City, NY, Mary Elizabeth "Betsy" Noll and her husband, Bruce of Albuquerque, NM and Martha K. Ash and her husband, Mark of Ridley Park, PA; 16 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Judith H. Poor; a step-son, Curtis B. Kellar, Jr.; two brothers, Edward E. Poor III and Richard W. Poor; and a sister, Camilla E. Carlisle.Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Service at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 S. Valley Forge Rd., Wayne, PA 19087 on Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 2:00pm. Interment will be private at the request of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Henry's memory to St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 S.
