Sullivan Hobart B. “Bart” Age 84, of Jenkintown, PA., formerly of Greenville, NC, passed away March 19th, 2018. He is the beloved husband of 35 years to Ellie (nee Leonard) Sullivan. He is survived by his 3 children: Michael, David, and Natalie; 4 grandchildren and his sister Phyllis Stacy. He is preceded in death by his father Hobart B. Sullivan Sr. and mother Natalie (nee Borni) Sullivan. As the child of an enlisted Navy officer, Bart moved frequently across the US and attended 15 grade schools. He loved learning and was passionate about ideas, spirituality, and helping others. He attended Jesuit Seminary at Wernersville, PA. and graduated from Springhill College with a major in Chemistry and a minor in Philosophy. He subsequently achieved a PhD in Organic Chemistry from the University of Pennsylvania. Bart combined his interests in chemistry and business with employment at research labs and management consulting firms prior to joining the global pharmaceutical, Smith Kline, where he was employed for 18 years in various roles including Director, Planning Operations. Throughout his career, he enjoyed teaching others and did so at the University of Pennsylvania, Saint Joseph’s and Drexel Universities in various Instructor/Professor roles. An avid cook and adventurer, Bart loved crossing the oceans in small ships to explore diverse cuisines and meet kindred travelers. Known by his friends and family as spirited and fun loving, there was never a debate he didn’t enjoy while still showing curiosity and consideration in all his interactions. Family will receive relatives and friends on Monday March 26, 2018 from 9-10 AM, and a Funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 AM, both at St. Vincent De Paul Church on 109 East Price Street, Philadelphia 19144.
