Howard L.E. Price passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at Devon Manor in Devon, PA. He was 99. Mr. Price was a former resident of Strafford, PA and King of Prussia, PA. He worked as an operator, conductor and dispatcher for Septa – Philadelphia Western Railroad. Howard started working for American Stores Co. in 1926 as a clerk. He ended up as manager for 16 years with the company. In 1942, he started working at Autocar & Truck Company on an assembly line. In July of 1943, he started on the Philadelphia and Western Railway (now known as SEPTA) as a train operator. Later, he became an instructor for new operators. Later he was a dispatcher and retired in 1975 after 32 years of service. Howard was a past President of Transportation for the Workers Union Local #239 in Upper Darby, PA.Mr. Price was a member of Our Lady of The Assumption Church in Strafford, PA and a former member of Mother of Divine Providence Church in King of Prussia, PA. Born in Lost Creek, PA on May 30, 1910, he was a son of the late George and Mabel (Ball) Pryce. He was the husband of the late Mary Ellen (O'Connor) Price, who died in 1998. Surviving are his loving family including 4 sons, George Price and his wife, Dorothy of Phoenixville, PA, Howard Price and his wife, Irene of Weirton, WV, James Price and his deceased wife, Margaret of Newtown Square, PA and Lynn Price and his wife, Bonnie of Phoenixville, PA; two daughters, Madeleine Brewer and her husband, Thomas of Strafford, PA and Linda Luther and her husband, Andrew of Hightown, VA; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, George Pryce and his wife, Mary of Maitland, FL; and a sister, Uldine Long of Wilmington, DE. Relatives & friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of The Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Rd., Strafford, PA 19087 on Monday, July 6, 2009 at 10:30am. Officiating will be the Rev. Daniel J. Hoy. His viewing will be on Monday morning from 9 to 10:20am, at the church. Interment in St. Augustine Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Howard's memory to the Legion of Mary at Our Lady Of The Assumption Church, 35 Old Eagle School Rd., Strafford, PA 19087 and/or St. Monica Church, 63 Main Ave., Berwyn, PA 19312.Arrangements are by The Bacchi-Courtney Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., Bridgeport, PA. www.bacchicourtney.com
