James H. Baxter, Jr.

James H. Baxter Jr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 15, 2009 at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, PA. He was 71. Mr. Baxter was a resident of King of Prussia, PA. He taught Social Studies at the Upper Merion High School for 37 years. James was involved in community soccer throughout his life, including the founding of the King of Prussia Soccer Club and coaching the boys and girls programs at Upper Merion High School. James attended the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in King of Prussia, PA. Mr. Baxter was a US Army veteran of peacetime, having completed basic training in the Marine Corps and enlistment in the Army and Army Reserve.Born in Philadelphia, PA on November 10, 1937, he was a son of the late James H. Baxter, Sr. and Eleanor M. (McGovern) Baxter. Surviving are his loving family including his wife of 44 years, Phoebe R. (Rudy) Baxter; a son, James H. Baxter, III and his wife, Dawn M. Weeks of Lansdale, PA; a daughter, Amelia Elizabeth Baxter of W. Norriton, PA; a step-grandson, Joseph Weeks; a sister, Mary Ann Heiler of W. Wildwood, NJ; three brothers, Daniel A. Baxter and his wife, Carole of Malaga, NJ, Richard W. Baxter and his wife, Linda of Philadelphia, PA and Thomas E. Baxter and his wife, Patricia of Philadelphia, PA; and many nephews and nieces. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service at The Bacchi-Courtney Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St., Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 11:00am. Officiating will be the Rev. Kristie L. Chandler. His viewings are Wednesday evening from 6 to 9pm, and Thursday morning from 9 to 10:50am, both at the funeral home.
