James Flynn

James (Jim) D. Flynn, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, born on July 19, 1935, was called to his eternal home on February 23, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
He was predeceased by his parents, Harriet Gormley and Joseph Flynn, and his sisters, Rosemary “Sue” Moeller and Sharon “Sherry” Owens.
He is survived by his adoring wife of 40 years, Dorothy (Dottie); his children Kevin Flynn (Mariella) and Karen Iannuzzi (John); his stepchildren Diane Sorey, James Sorey, Mark Sorey (Patricia), and Kimberly Rodriguez; his grandchildren Melissa Iannuzzi, Mark Iannuzzi, and Christopher Flynn; and his step-grandchildren Mark Hutton, Jr. (Dawn), Diane Seifert, Brian Hutton (Dana), Kristee Bayer (Jimmy), Danielle Slavin, Jamie Sorey, James Sorey, and Thomas Sorey Jr.
Jim attended Northeast High School and enlisted into the United States Marines Corps in 1952. After serving his country for three years during the Korean War, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He was awarded both the National Defense Medal and the Navy Occupation Service Medal.
For most of his career, Jim was a tool and die maker at Pennwalt Stokes. Jim was also a longstanding member of the Wm. D. Oxley American Legion Post 133, serving as a club officer for many years.
Jim loved his wife and family. He enjoyed going to dances and on cruises with Dottie. Jim had fond memories of his time serving in the Marines. Jim never met a buffet he did not like and appreciated an occasional Coors Light. Although the Philadelphia Eagles were his favorite team, Reggie White was his favorite football player.
A viewing will be held on March 7, 2024, beginning at 8:30 AM at St. Bernard Church, 7341 Cottage Street, Philadelphia, PA. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 AM, and immediately following, Jim will be buried with full military honors at 11:30 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown, PA.
In lieu of flowers, to honor Jim’s passion for the military and service to our country, the family requests donations be made to the Wm. D. Oxley American Legion Post 133 (https://theoxleypost.org) located at 4637 Decatur Street, Philadelphia PA.
