James Joseph Gilligan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, at his residence in Wayne, PA. He was 91. Mr. Gilligan worked for many years as a salesperson for International Paper and then retired from Union Camp Paper Co. in the late 1980’s. He was a US Marine Corps veteran. James was a member of Mother of Divine Providence Church in King of Prussia, PA. His favorite place to enjoy summers was at his vacation home on Lake George with his family and grandchildren. Born in New York, NY on March 22, 1930, he was a son of the late Patrick J. and Sarah (Devine) Gilligan; and the husband of the late Barbara A. (Sloane) Gilligan, who died in 2009. Surviving is his loving family including four sons: James J. (Carol) Gilligan Jr., Michael J. Gilligan, David P. (Ann) Gilligan and Patrick J. (Paula) Gilligan; two daughters, Mary E. (Jeff) Bradley and Catherine A. Gilligan; nine grandchildren: Eric (Amanda), Kimberly (Mike), Carolyn, Kiley, Jamie, Abbey (Bastien), Quinn (Rebecca), Concetta and Shane; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by a son, John Gilligan; a brother, Patrick M. Gilligan; and two sisters, Bridget Gilligan and Anna Gilligan. Relatives & friends are invited to James’ viewing at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Road, King of Prussia, PA on Monday, February 21, 2022 from 9:15 to 10:15 am; with his Funeral Mass starting at 10:30 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken, PA.
