James "Jim" J. Mullane, Jr.

March 9, 1948 — March 4, 2024

James “Jim” J. Mullane, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 4,

2024 at his home in Norristown, PA. He was 75. Born in Philadelphia, PA on March 9, 1948, the son of the

late Edith (nee Cari) and James J. Mullane, Sr.

Jim was a devoted husband to Dorthia “Jenny” L. Mullane (nee Greer) with whom he had two sons and

one adopted daughter. His eldest son, the late James “Shamus” J. Mullane III (Lori) gave him 2

granddaughters: Amelia and Addyson. Son John W. Mullane, and Daughter Nicole “Coley” Burke (Kevin)

gave him 4 granddaughters: Abriona “Abey”, Alivia, Grace and Alizabeth. Jim had two sisters, the late

Geraldine Weil and Patricia Rice (James). He had many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved

dearly.

Jim was a Vietnam Veteran, and a longtime public servant who led efforts to advance firefighting in the

state. He worked as a Union Carpenter for the Philadelphia Carpenters Union for more than 30 years. He

loved his trade, but he was truly passionate about being a Firefighter and sharing his knowledge with

the younger members.

Jim was a lifetime member of Hancock Fire Company, where he was on the Board of Directors and

moved through the ranks serving in various roles including Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Chief, Chief,

and President. He was President of the Firemen’s Relief Association, a Founding Member and Captain of

the Norristown Diving Unit, a Founding Member of the Congressional Fire Service Institution, President

of the State Firemen's Association, a life member & longtime board member of the Norristown Maenner-Chor Club, and a “Walk of Honor” brick was placed in the National Fallen

Firefighters Memorial Park in his name. He retired from active fire fighting after completing his term as

the Fire Chief for Norristown Borough.

Jim was always the life of the party. He was a great cook and could often be found cooking delicious

Italian dishes for his family to enjoy. He liked his Irish Whiskey and loved to gather with his family and

friends. His seven fishes Christmas Eve celebration was open to all and the many that joined made

memories that they will cherish. His signature scent, his all encompassing hugs, his hearty laugh, and his

big smile will be missed. Jim was a great father and a man of character who was loved by all who knew

him. He mentored many and touched many lives, and will be deeply missed.
