Jane B Johnston, 85, of Norristown, PA passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, March 13, 2020. Jane was born in Philadelphia, PA on September 2, 1934, a daughter of the late Pearl V (Bean) and John C Baxter. Jane graduated from Frankford High School in June 1952 as Salutatorian. Based on grade point average, she should have been Valedictorian, but in 1952, women weren’t permitted to hold that honor. Following graduation, Jane married Gilbert Ronald Johnston, US Navy/Korean War veteran. She received an Associate Degree in Applied Science, Summa Cum Laude, from Montgomery County Community College in June 1974. Jane was a Teacher’s Aide at Marshall Street Elementary School and Norristown Area High School. Following retirement, she also volunteered at Hancock Elementary School. Throughout her life, she enjoyed going on “adventures” with her parents, husband, children, and friends. Whether trips took her to a goat farm, a garlic festival, a crafts fair, an orchard, the mushroom capital, the Rideau Lakes, or cross-country/internationally to see her children, she always had fun, with a smile on her face and laugh in her voice. Jane was predeceased by her husband Gilbert Ronald Johnston, her son John Randall Johnston, and daughter Carole Elizabeth Marson. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Patricia Ann Hartline, sons-in-law Gregory W Hartline and Steven H Marson, three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Jane was an active member of Jeffersonville Presbyterian Church for more than 60 years and cherished the friendships and strong faith she built there. A celebration of her life will be held at Jeffersonville Presbyterian Church, 1921 West Main Street, Norristown, PA 19403, on a date and time yet to be determined. Family will receive friends following the service at a luncheon at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jeffersonville Presbyterian Church.
