Newark, DE

Janice Rose Gaskins, age 80, passed away peacefully at her home in Newark, Delaware, on June 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on October 25, 1945, in Franklin, Virginia, Janice was the daughter of the late Ada B. Balascio and Henry F. Balascio.

Janice was a devoted Christian whose faith provided strength, comfort, and guidance throughout her life. She enjoyed attending church, loved singing hymns, and was a proud member of the church choir. She was known for her kind heart, warm smile, and deep love for her family and friends.

Janice worked as an accountant for many years before retiring. While she valued her work, family was always at the center of her life. She cherished family reunions, holiday gatherings, celebrations, and long conversations with her sisters and loved ones.

In her younger years, Janice enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, and creating many treasured memories with family and friends. In her later years, she found great joy attending an adult day program where she loved singing, dancing, participating in activities, and spending time with the many friends she made there. The laughter, companionship, and sense of community brought her happiness and brightened her days.

Janice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Stanley J. Gaskins Sr.; her son, Stanley J. Gaskins Jr.; her brothers, Carmen Balascio and Albert Balascio; her sister, Marie Nichols; and her parents, Ada B. Balascio and Henry F. Balascio.

She is survived by her loving sons, Steven Gaskins and his partner, Nikki Mohr, and Alpheus Gaskins and his wife, Holly Varady; her cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn Varady, Nicholas Gaskins, Zachary Gaskins, and Madelyn Gaskins; her great-grandson, Landon Varady; Harper Schnares, whom Janice loved like a great-grandchild and who held a special place in her heart; her sisters, Marlene Holland, Mary Baumann, and Toni Earnest; along with many extended family members and dear friends.

Janice will be remembered for her faith, resilience, kindness, and the joy she found in spending time with those she loved. Her loving spirit, gentle heart, and devotion to family will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

A private memorial service will be held by the family.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to everyone who provided friendship, support, care, and compassion throughout Janice’s later years. They ask that Janice be remembered through acts of kindness, time spent with loved ones, and sharing happy memories with one another.
