He enlisted in the US Coast Guard with a desire to do all things aviation. His first assignment from boot camp was small boat Station Miami Beach, Florida, where he became part of the team that handled search and rescue, drug interdiction, and law enforcement. Jake was awarded the US Coast Guard Commendation Medal, along with numerous other awards. Jake's desire to be part of the aviation team was fulfilled when he attended A-school in Elizabeth City, NC and became an Air Maintenance Technician (AMT). He was then transferred to Coast Guard Air Station Miami in Opa Loca, Florida, where he was part of the team for four years. His six year tour was completed last year and he signed on for another tour, transferring to Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento, California, only this past July. He was studying for his next test to achieve a higher rank and had just qualified to be a part of the mission team to work and fly on C-130 aircraft. Jake loved life. He loved his family, the love of his life, Christina, his friends, the Coast Guard and his dog. He had a unique talent to make people love him. He was his own man, a man's man who was smart, respectful, loyal, and compassionate. He was funny, making people laugh in the best and worst of times.
