Jean M. Mattiacci Jean M. Mattiacci, 93, of Philadelphia, PA passed away Wednesday, May 21st, peacefully, at Bryn Mawr Extended Care, in Bryn Mawr, PA. Jean was born in Waterford, NJ on June 16, 1920, a daughter of the late Gaetana (Costantino) and Antonio Perrone. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis Mattiacci, She is the loving mother of Donna Barbieri and her son-in-law Dr. Ernest Barbieri; Devoted grandmother of Amy Barbieri and Ernesto Barbieri; dear sister of Lucy Caruso of Hammonton, NJ. Jean grew up on a farm in Waterford, NJ. She was one of eight children, but she was especially close to her sister and best friend, Lucy. Her deceased siblings are Pauline Mauriello, Millie Chiaradonna, and Austin, Joseph, Sam, and Frank Perrone. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Jean was extremely devoted to her family and her passion was helping others. Jean wanted to go to nursing school but her Sicilian father insisted that she remain at home and provide nursing care for her sick mother. She loved caring for children, the sick, and the elderly. She married her husband, Louis, during World War II and they lived in VA where he was stationed in the Navy. After the war, they moved to Philadelphia. Jean lived in the same house in Northeast Philadelphia since 1952 where she enjoyed helping her neighbors with anything they needed. Family will receive relatives and friends Monday June 2, 2014 at 10 AM and a religious service will follow at 10:30 AM at the Walter J. Meyers Funeral Home 6645 Torresdale Ave. Phila., PA 19135. Her interment will be at Magnolia Cemetery Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in her name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105 Email: donors@stjude.org.
