Joan Agnes King (nee Snyder) passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Born on November 20, 1929 to Florence and Charles Snyder in Chicago, IL, the middle of three daughters. Joan attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish School and graduated Visitation High School in 1947. She then completed nursing school in 1951 at The Little Company of Mary Hospital in Chicago. After graduating as a Registered Nurse, she worked as a Home Health Nurse until her marriage to John P. King in 1954. The couple lived in Illinois where their first three children were born. They relocated to Pennsylvania where five more children were born, and the family later settled in King of Prussia. While raising her eight children and fostering a young girl, Joan was an at-home mother until restarting her career as Occupational Health Nurse at Glaxo Smith Kline from where she retired in 1988.
Joan was known for her gentle ways, kind heart, humor and wisdom. A self-taught pianist and an artist, she enjoyed travel, music and theater, painting, gardening, reading and crossword puzzles. A voracious reader, she always had a book with her and a few on the night stand. Travel, Bridge and Book clubs, volunteering at Norristown State Hospital and Upper Merion Cultural Center were favorite activities as well as family trips to the Jersey shore. Joan had many life-long friends from childhood, nursing school, neighbors and coworkers, continuing correspondence through the lost art of letter writing. Her beautiful handwriting was a reflection of Catholic school education with an artist's flair.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her eight children John, James (Ursula), Terese Kornet, Kathryn Fullam (Timothy), Mary Heuer (Robert), Ann Felsburg (Robert), Robert (Lisa), and Joanne Golden (Dean). Dearest Grandmother to Stephen, Mallory (Brett), August (Danielle), Leanne, Lauren (William), Aidan (Katie), Madeline, Paul, Morgan, Cecilia, and Dean. Great Grandmother to Tallulah Joan, Cameron, Logan, and Zinnia.
Also survived by sister Alyce Grundei, and brother and sister-in-law Thomas and Rosemarie King of Chicago, IL, as well as several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents, husband John P. King, and sister Mary Anne O'Brien.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life on July 2, 2025 9:00 AM at Bacchi Funeral Home, 805 DeKalb St., Bridgeport, PA , with her Prayer Service starting at 10:30AM, followed by a graveside service at Washington Memorial Chapel Cemetery in Valley Forge Park.
