John E. Boyd, Iii

John E. Boyd III, 76, passed away on Saturday, August 15, 2009, at his residence in King of Prussia, PA. A life-long educator, John was a full professor at Manor College in Jenkintown, PA, and before that a reading coordinator for the Owen J. Roberts School District in Pottstown, PA. He attended Penn State, first at Altoona, then University Park, and earned a bachelor's degree in education. He later earned his master's at Temple University. John remained a devoted Penn Stater. He was extremely active with Penn State Altoona, where he served as an Alumni Representative on the Board of Trustees and also established the Boyd-Monahan Award. John was also a member of the International Reading Association. John was born in Lebanon, PA, on April 26, 1933, the youngest son of the late John E. and Anne T. (Quinn) Boyd. Surviving are his loving family including his wife of 29 years, Constance ""Connie"" D. (Novinski) Maximowicz Boyd; children Penelope, Candace, Therese, John IV, and Carl Boyd, and Linda and Richard Maximowicz; grandchildren: John V, Anne, Charitee, and Hunter; a brother, Patrick M. Boyd; a sister, Anne Q. Deckard; and many nephews and nieces. Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Mass at St. Isaac Jogues Church, 50 W. Walker Rd., Wayne, PA on Friday, August 21, 2009, at 10:00 am. Friends may call on Thursday evening 6 to 8 pm, at The Bacchi-Courtney Funeral Home & Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405 and Friday morning 9 to 9:50am, at the church. Interment in Washington Memorial Chapel Cemetery, Valley Forge National Park, Upper Merion Twp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Boyd-Monahan Award at Penn State Altoona, Development & Alumni Relations, 1419 12th Ave., Altoona, PA 16601.
