Burns Mr. John R. Burns, 86, of Trooper PA passed away Monday, April 23rd, 2012 at Montgomery Hospital, in Norristown, PA. Mr. Burns was born in Norristown, PA on August 21, 1925, the son of the late Francis B. and Bridget (Kirk) Burns. John served in the United States Navy during WWII on board the USS Alaska and continued to go to USS Alaska reunions whenever possible. He was awarded the American Campaign, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign, Navy Occupation SVC, World War 2 Victory Medal, China Service Medal, and a Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He worked at Superior Tube Co. for over 34 years, and also at many part time jobs through his life to support his family. He was a member of Visitation BVM Church since 1955. He exercised and swam frequently at the Plymouth Valley Community center. He was an active member of many organizations including being one of the first drivers for Lower Providence Ambulance. A 29 year member of American Legion Post 602, a Life member of VFW post 7155, a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus and a very proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Notre Dame, Division 1 of Montgomery County. He was the 1999 Grand Marshall of the Norristown St Patrick's Day parade. And of course a very special group of gentlemen the ROMEO's breakfast club, where he was known as Sailor Jack. John lived life to the fullest and enjoyed many of life's little treasure, his large garden, reading books, and all kinds of music and singing, The two greatest joys of his life were dancing with his beloved wife Helen every chance they could, and his seven grand children, attending every event that they were involved in, all 7 were his favorite and he made them all feel that way. John is the widower of Helen (Mulcahy) Burns. He is survived by three daughters, Betty Ann McMichael (Pat), of Eagleville, Karen Burns of Trooper, Jackie Rittenhouse (David) of Collegeville and seven grandchildren, Ryan Nyce, Sarah and Patrick McMichael, Joseph, Kelly, Sandra and Christine Rittenhouse and many cousins. Relatives and Friends are invited to his viewing Friday 7-9PM and Saturday 8:30-9:30AM at the Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home 101 N Park Ave. Trooper, PA 19403. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Visitation BVM Church Saturday at 10:00AM. Interment at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken. In lieu of flowers- memorial donations to Lower Providence Ambulance Building Fund, PO box 8 Eagleville PA 19408 would be appreciated.
