John E. “Jack” Forrest passed away on August 16, 2011. Predeceased after 55 ½ years of marriage by the love of his life, Catherine “Cass” (nee Crisolo). Devoted father of John E. “Jack” Forrest, Jr. (the late Diane), Donna L. Browning (Dave), Brian K. Forrest (Maryellen) and the late Debora A. Forrest. Loving grandfather of Kelly Forrest, Catherine “Cathy” (Alex Naumenko) and John Browning, Brian J., Daniel and Tara Forrest. Loving great-grandfather of Jacquelyn Boatright, Jessica Naumenko, Mikayla and Joshua Browning. Dear brother of Albert D. Jr. (Mary), Donald H. (Jean) and Richard C. Forrest (Diane) John served as a cryptographer in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and is a member of the William D. Oxley A.L. Post #133. He was active in the Boy Scouts and assisted in many of their fundraisers. He worked at the Philadelphia Navy Yard for over 34 years. He was an avid photographer and was a member of the Philadelphia Navy Yard’s photography club. Before he retired he was working on the Ship Life Extension Program (S.L.E.P.) and earned many awards and citations for his cost-saving, efficiency improvements. He was a phenomenal chess player and volunteered his time to teach chess at the Free Library of Philadelphia in the evenings. After his retirement, he became active in his church and joined Vogt Morning Glory Seniors. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Relatives and Friends are invited to his viewing Thursday 7-9 PM and Friday 10-11 AM at Tacony Baptist Church and a Religious Service Friday 11 AM at Tacony Baptist Church. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to The Tacony Baptist Church, 4715 Disston Street, Philadelphia PA 19135. Services entrusted to the Walter J. Meyers Funeral Home.
