John R. Gill

December 5, 1940 — July 7, 2022

John R. Gill of Southampton Estates, Southampton, PA, formerly from Hatboro, PA, Crossed The Bar on July 7, 2022 after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was 81 years old. John was a graduate of Pompano Beach High School (FL) and Baldwin Wallace College (Berea, OH) where he received his BBA degree. In the middle of his college education, he served four years in the Air Force as an Aircraft Control & Warning radar technician. In 1962, he married the love of his life Judy (nee Haskell) and they shared almost 60 wonderful years together. They were known to most as the Two J’s who did almost everything together. John worked for Rohm and Haas Company in Philadelphia as a Marketing Communications and Advertising Manager for 28-1/2 years (Plastics, Agricultural Chemicals, R&H Seeds, Petroleum Chemicals, Water-Treatment Polymers, Detergent Polymers, and Biocides divisions). After taking an early retirement, John and Judy started their own Agency, Two J’s Communications which they ran for several years. Their major hobby was boating and long-range cruising. They were Charter and Life Members of the Americas Great Loop Cruisers Association and completed the Americas Great Loop Cruise in 2004, a 6000+ mile journey around the eastern United States and Canada. John was an active member of U.S. Power Squadrons / aka Americas Boating Club and was a Past Staff Commander earning 45 Merit Marks. John was also a Certified Instructor and a Certified Vessel Safety Check Examiner. He was also involved in community work and had been President of the Upper Moreland Adult Evening School for eight years. He also served as a Constable at Elections. As a member of Lehman United Methodist Church in Hatboro, he had been Chairman of the Worship Commission, a member of the Finance Committee and an Usher during his tenure. Since the Two J’s major hobby was boating and long-range cruising, after his illness forced them to sell their beloved 36ft motor yacht, they took several big ship cruises leaving the piloting and navigation to the professionals. They particularly cruised on the USA rivers. John is survived by his wife, Judy, his brother-in-law George Skip Haskell, nephew George Chris Haskell, niece Grace Tan-Haskell, grandniece Cali Haskell & cousins Pam Gill Nelson, Bill & Estelle Gill, and Silvana Gill. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 10:45 am on Saturday, July 16th in the Auditorium of Southampton Estates, 238 Street Rd., Southampton, PA 18966. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will be private at Highwood Cemetery in Pittsburgh, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of John Gill to the Southampton Estates Samaritan Fund, c/o The Legacy Foundation, 420 Delaware Drive, Fort Washington, PA., 19034 or the USPS Educational Fund, PO Box 30423, 1504 Blue Ridge Rd, Raleigh, NC 27607.
