John D. Haasz

March 3, 1967 — July 7, 2025

John D. Haasz, 58, of Elkins Park, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, July 7, 2025 at his residence. He was born on March 3, 1967, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Mary (Matusevich) and William W. Haasz, Jr.

John was a proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters, Local 164. Over his 33-year career, he led large projects as a General Superintendent, constructing and renovating some of the most well-known structures and institutions in Philadelphia, including Temple University's Morgan Hall, The Ayer condominiums on Washington Square, and Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). When John retired in 2022, he worked for Target Building Construction, Crum Lynne, PA.

John found a love for adventure and travel in his early adulthood and continued to prioritize travel throughout his life, instilling the same in his children. John backpacked through Europe, Australia, South America and Africa, successfully summitting the peak of Mt. Kilimanjaro on September 28, 2008.

John was passionate about all sports. He enjoyed playing golf with his friends, family and coworkers and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers and Flyers. When his children were young, he coached their youth teams. Many of the children he coached, who are now adults, remained in contact with John and still called him Coach.

John was the beloved husband of Lisa (Rainey) Haasz and devoted father to Alex, David and MaryKate. He was their protector, their anchor and their biggest supporter in all things. Family always came first for John in every decision he made and every action he took.

John is also survived by his lifelong best friend, Scott Young of Philadelphia, and his seven siblings, William Haasz, III and his wife Linda of Wyndmoor, PA, Stephanie Griesemer and her husband Jay of Birdsboro, PA, Robert Haasz and his wife Patricia of Blue Bell, PA, David Haasz and his wife Jodi of Glenside, PA, Melanie Haasz of Wyndmoor, PA, Victoria Miller and her husband Daniel of Cumming, GA, and Loretta Anderson and her husband Rick of Wyndmoor, PA.

A celebration of John's life will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

If moved to do so, contributions can be made in John's name to a charity of your choice.
