John Iwan Kunasz

June 25, 1949 — August 27, 2023

John (Iwan) Kunasz passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, August 27th, 2023 at the age of 74. John, "Johnny", or the "big kahuna" as he often referred to himself as, was born on June 25th, 1949 in Hamborn, Germany to his late parents, Fedor and Valentina Kunasz. He was the 3rd oldest of six siblings, and now joins his older brother, Wasil, in heaven.

John came to the United States at the age of two, and was raised in the Fairmount section of Philadelphia. In his early years, he quickly developed passions for anything that had a motor and was fast, fishing in the Schuylkill, "hanging ten" in Wildwood, and a good cheesesteak. In the late 60's, John enlisted in the Marines and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. His service is a perfect example of the brave, dedicated, and strong man that he was.

Soon after returning from the War, on June 16th, 1979 John went on to marry his biggest catch yet, his "Blondee", Pamela Hoffman. They then began to raise a family together with their two daughters, Jessica and Heidi.

John, always a big kid at heart, continued to have fun with his family and friends through the years. He was a lover of life, found joy in the little things, and always had a quirky and clever joke up his sleeve. If you knew him, he was one to make an impression on you, most likely gave you a nickname, and just knew how to bring happiness and a laugh your way. He loved to spend summers in the sun on Lake Wallenpaupack and his boat(s) HEJOPAJEKU, skiing and snowmobiling, horses, country music, NASCAR, bowling, and simply cheering on all his girls, whatever it may be.

John also found ways to have fun and exert his tough guy energy with his professional career through his passion for cars. He had a successful career as an Auto Technician, was a fixer of all, a master of craft, and liked to show off his creative talent through drawing.

In addition to his wife of 44 years, Pamela Lynn Kunasz (Hoffman), John is survived by his daughters, Jessica Jean Brennan (Kunasz), aka stixlet, Heidi Lynn Norton (Kunasz), aka squeaky toy, and his mini malti-poo, Lilly. He was a loving grandfather to his grandchildren, Aydin John (7), Mykenzi Jean (5), Ella Jean (4), and Tucker John (3). John is also survived by his sisters, Adele Kunasz and Irene Williams (Kunasz), as well as his brothers, Dimetro and Michael Kunasz.

John (Iwan) Kunasz will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A beloved husband, devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all whose lives he touched.
