John W. Loyle of Bensalem, PA, and previously of Vineland, NJ, died April 19, 2023.
John was born in Philadelphia in 1929, the youngest of eight boys of John and Edna Loyle. He graduated from Upper Darby High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John was honorably discharged as a sergeant first class. After the war, he settled in Springfield, PA, with his first wife, Dorothy. The couple had three children.
In 1960, John and his brother Walter built Loyle Lanes bowling center on Delsea Drive in Vineland, NJ, and John managed the lanes for 50 years. As the business prospered he brought on his brother Charles, and eventually Charles’ two sons, as partners. Tragically, the business was burned down in 2010 by a rival bowling center’s manager who was later convicted and sentenced for the arson.
John was married to his second wife, Dolly, for 33 years. After Dolly retired, the couple split their time between Vineland and Palm Beach County, FL. Avid golfers, they enjoyed the game at various private courses. Dolly passed away in 2005.
John moved to Bensalem, PA, to further pursue his long-held passion for Thoroughbred horse racing. Over the years, he owned dozens of horses and enjoyed more than 100 wins. In his later years, he was a fixture at Parx Racing in Bensalem.
John is survived by his three children: John of Southampton, PA; Tom of Paoli, PA; and Susan of Chadds Ford, PA.
Donations are being accepted in John’s name to Turning for Home, a nonprofit that provides former Parx Racing racehorses with a safe and productive retirement: patha.org/turningforhome.
