John C. “Blackie” Maslayak passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026 at his residence in Bridgeport, PA. He was 74. Born in Norristown, PA on April 5, 1952, he was a son of the late Michael and Catherine F. (Moshtuk) Maslayak. Blackie was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport, PA and was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Bridgeport. He graduated from Upper Merion High School and worked as a waste water operator for the Bridgeport Boro for over 20 years. You could find him either hanging out at Franzone’s or the Rib House or just enjoying a good conversation in town with a local. He loved the people of Bridgeport. Blackie was an Alabama Booser, a member of the Teamster Local Union 384, and enjoyed playing golf.
Surviving is his family including his siblings: Mary Irene Maslayak, Dr. Michael J. Maslayak and his wife, Janet, and William P. Maslayak; 2 uncles, John “Jack” Inigosi and Bill Gardner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Blackie’s viewing will be at Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Saturday, April 25, 2026 from 9:00am to 10:20am, with his Divine Liturgy beginning at 10:30am. Interment will be in Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Saints Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA 19405
