John J. Rio

John J. Rio passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 8, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at Towne Manor West in Norristown, PA. He was 82. Mr. Rio was a resident of King of Prussia, PA. He worked as a Police Officer in Lower Merion Twp. for 10 years and then worked in the financial field in the local area. John was a member of Mother of Divine Providence Church in King of Prussia. He enjoyed playing golf, but most of all he was a great family man who loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John was a US Marine Corp veteran, serving from 1954 to 1956. Born in Norristown, PA on August 6, 1934, he was a son of the late Ralph and Mary (Scarafone) Rio. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 61 years, Rose (Bianco) Rio; three daughters: Diane M. Raymond and her husband, Joseph, of Pottstown, PA, Linda A. Mills of Pottstown, PA and Jacqueline McAteer of Boyertown, PA; nine grandchildren: Jonathan, Alex, Elizabeth, Kelly, Paul, Andrew John, Daniel, Kevin and John; three great-grandchildren: Maxwell, Luca and Violet; a sister, Rose Ann Cannon and her husband, Bernard, of West Chester, PA; two nephews, Daniel and Bernard; and two nieces, Marylynn and Kathleen. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lawrence McAteer. Relatives & friends are invited to John’s Funeral Mass at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 11:00 am. Officiating will be the Rev. Martin T. Cioppi, Pastor. His greeting will be Wednesday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 am, at the church. Interment will be in St. Denis Cemetery, Havertown, PA.
