John F. Stempien Jr. of Wilkes-Barre passed away Sunday, May 20, 2018, in Penn Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia, from lung complications. He leaves behind his wife of 40 years, LuAnn Dumble Stempien; daughter, Jennifer Stempien Hartley; sons, Jonathan and Eric; mother, Cecilia Weigel, New Jersey; grandchildren, Jack Kushnowski, Ashlyn Heller, Lorelei Stempien and Bryce Stempien; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Wheeler, Laflin; and Michelle Jones, New Jersey; and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gregory Gancarcik, and grandparents, Berner and Mary Petrosky. John loved spending time with his grandchildren, whom he adored. They were his world. John was a welder and carpenter by trade and he was known as the door man to his friends in Wilkes-Barre area. A celebration of John’s life and memory will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Catholic War Vets of Ashley, 175 Old Ashley Road, Ashley. Condolences may be made at www.meyersfh.com.
