John Francis "Jack" Wolper, Sr. of East Norriton, PA, died on July 13, 2023, at home at Brightview East Norriton. He was 97 years old. Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania on December 30, 1925, he was the son of the late E. Michael and Dorothy G. Wolper. He grew up on the family farm in East Norriton and later "in town" on Swede and Powell Streets. Jack attended St. Patrick School through tenth grade, then Norristown High. He worked as a Comptometer repairman until he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving from February 1944 through April 1946. After his military service, he was employed by Adam Scheidt Brewery (later C. Schmidt & Sons) in Norristown as an ash puller, working his way up to stationary engineer, leaving when the brewery closed. He worked in similar positions at Gimbels, Ortlieb's Brewery in Philadelphia and finally Wyeth Labs in Malvern, retiring in 1990. Jack's mother introduced him to his future bride, Doris T. Fugger, whom he married in 1949. Together, they raised a family of six. Despite working shiftwork, Jack was a patient and present Dad who was extremely proud of his children. An active and lifelong member of St. Patrick parish, he was president of the Holy Name Society, a member of the choir, parish council, Knights of Columbus and more. He was a fixture at the Cheer Wheel at the annual bazaar and attended daily Mass for many years. He and Doris volunteered at the St. John's Soup Kitchen well into his 80s, treating all he met with respect. Jack's warmth, curiosity about people and sense of humor won him many friends at every stage of his life. After his retirement, Jack took up painting, first at the Norristown Art League and later at Brightview. He was a faithful Phillies fan, a traveler who relished his trips to Austria, Germany, Ireland, England, Canada and more, along with many summer vacations in Sea Isle City. His family timed their calls around his favorite shows: Jeopardy!, Wheel of Fortune and the Andy Griffith Show. Jack will be greatly missed by his children John F. Jr. (Wendy), Robert A. (Karen Ritter), Timothy M. (Lisa), Mary W. Treisbach (Alan), Kathleen A., Joseph J. (Lori) and grandchildren Jeffrey Treisbach (Marta Sykut), Christopher Wolper, Allison DiBussolo (Luke), Virginia Wolper and Kathryn Conticello (Will), great granddaughter Carmen Josephine DiBussolo, his brother E. Michael, Jr. (Josie) and sister Maryanne W. Marks (Herman), along with many nieces and nephews who thought the world of him. Jack was predeceased by his wife Doris, along with siblings Daniel T., Thomas A., Dorothy G. and Eleanor Wolper Shackleford. A funeral Mass will be held at 10AM Thursday July 20, 2023, at St. Patrick Church in Norristown, followed by inurnment with military honors at St. Patrick Cemetery.
