John E. Youngdahl passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20, 2020 at his home in King of Prussia surrounded by his loving family. He was 74. John graduated from Clarkson College of Technology. He started his career designing bridges and then worked for 30 years as a civil structural engineer for Conrail and Amtrak. He served as the BSA 551 Troop Community Chairman, enjoyed tutoring Math and was known as the neighborhood “Mr. Fix it.” There was no car hood up that he could not resist. For 40 years he volunteered his mechanical and electrical skills to the Upper Merion Baptist Church when maintenance issues arose. Besides fixing things and solving problems, John enjoyed photography, trains, sailing, dancing and spending time by the ocean with Darlene, family and friends. John was a son of the late Barbara (Campbell) and Curtis E. Youngdahl. Surviving is his loving family including his beloved wife, Darlene (Deuel) Youngdahl; his daughter, Laura Youngdahl; his son, David Youngdahl; two grandchildren, Dylan and Caitlin; his sister, Ellen Youngdahl; as well as many other loving family members. John is preceded in death by his brother, Curtis E. Youngdahl, Jr. (wife, Robin). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to support Pancreatic Cancer research can be made to Fox Chase Cancer Center, "In Memory of John Youngdahl”, 333 Cottman Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19111. John loved gatherings with family and friends. There is nothing he would enjoy more than to see people gathered together telling stories and laughing. Since it is not possible to gather together safely at this time, a Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Details will be updated and posted on this site.
