Joseph Browning Bond III (known to most as JoeBond), passed away peacefully in his home at 84 years old on the morning of November 13, 2022, after spending days with his friends and family.
Descended from the Bond line that has been in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area since 1721, Joe was born in Philadelphia in 1938 to Joseph Bond Jr & Mercedes Mann. Their upbringing as supporters of the less fortunate and oppressed (women's rights, union organizing, etc.) formulated Joe's character resulting in a compassionate man with strong opinions, helping others when he was able.
The essence of Joe included a streak of wanderlust that fueled his love of travel, both worldwide and within North America - including at least fifteen multi-month driving trips around the country. These trips brought him in frequent contact with his many friends and family with whom he loved spending time. Joe was also an avid competitor, gifted with natural ability at nearly any sport he played including golf and ping-pong. And he had a rich, active mind - loving to read historical matter, the challenge of puzzles, playing cards and backgammon.
He had an innate ability at focused laboring enabling him to achieve remarkable success early in his professional life, advancing from Studio Manager-in-training to Producer/Director by age 27 for the mobile medical TV unit at Smith Kline & French in Philadelphia. These successes, earning him professional attention, led to the offer of an unspecified position at Teletronics in New York City - a video post-production house. Joining them he was soon part of the team developing a ground-breaking film-to-tape color grading system, later named the Palette, becoming their first and principal color grading artist (known then as a Colorist). He remained a principal player in his field, including participation as a founding member of the remarkable Post Perfect video post house, until his retirement in 1998.
Preceding him in death are his parents, wives Penny, Joyce, and Lucia, and his beloved elder sister Carolyn and husband Ned Timmins.
He is survived by his loving children of he and Penny, and their spouses - son Tim & Kathy (nee Clifton), daughter Robin & Jeff Brun, son Parker & Jen (nee Taylor), and of he and Suzanne Gutmann, daughter Kaitlin.
Additional survivors include his loving grandchildren of Tim & Kathy (nee Clifton) Bond, Taylor (Elena, nee Clarizio) & Carly; of Jeff & Robin Brun, Kim, Tyler (Natalie, nee Finch), & Allison (Austin Vacek); of Parker & Jen (nee Taylor), Parker Jr, & Ben; of Kaitlin & Peter Foster, Emersyn.
He is further survived by his loving great-grandchildren of Parker Jr, Sophia, and Evangeline.
Lastly, he is survived by his beloved elder sister Mercedes Dietrich (Dede) of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, and his beloved younger brother Craig Bond(Donna) of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania. His love for his sisters and brother was immense, spending time with them nearly every week. Additionally he had many loved cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Dad was a benevolent man in many ways, including his generous annual donations to the Philabundance organization helping the hungry of Philadelphia. He requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in memoriam to that organization.
No funeral was desired, but a celebration of his life will be planned for the warmer months of next summer.
