Joseph Patrick Foley passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at the age of 97. Joe was a resident at Rose Tree Place, Media, PA at the time of his passing. Joe was born in Brooklyn, NY. He grew up in Dublin, Ireland and spent much of his boyhood in Kenmare. He received his B.S. from the University of Dublin and his Masters degree in Engineering from New York University. Joe served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an engineer. He was a licensed Professional Engineer in the State of New Jersey and one of the founding partners of the consulting engineering firm Elson T. Killam Associates, Inc. in Millburn, New Jersey. Joe was a devout Catholic and a caring, loving and generous man, who volunteered many hours to the Community Food Bank of NJ in Hillside, New Jersey. Most of all, Joe’s greatest joy was spending time with his family. He was the classic “patriarch,” the heart of his family, and he liked to think he was “the boss” too! Although his family was spread across this country and beyond, everyone always found their way back to him for birthdays and holidays. We were very lucky to have him for so many years and he will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanna (nee Ciandrini) of 59 years, his parents Nora (O’Leary) and Patrick Foley, and his sisters, Catherine Foley and Mary (Foley) Buckley. He is survived by his seven children: Paul, Pauline, Joseph, Kathleen, James, Stephen and Dennis Foley; his twelve grandchildren: Kimberley Foley, Brent Foley, Erin Allen, Brian Hodgdon, David Hodgdon, Lizz Ward, Megan Foley-Cionek, Adam Foley, Jessica Foley Morse, Jennifer Foley, Daniel Foley and Kathryn Foley; and his ten great grandchildren: Audrey Hodgdon, Jackson and Avery Allen, Matix, Zoie and Xavier Ward, Wilhelmina Cionek, Annabel and James Morse, and Pascoe Conway. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Joe’s life. The viewing will be from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, March 18 at Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home, 101 N Park Ave., Trooper, PA, and 8:45 – 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 19 at St. Teresa of Avila Church, Norristown, PA followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice in his memory.
