Joseph P. Grimes, Sr.

Joseph P. Grimes, Sr. passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015 at Spring Mill Senior Living in Kimberton, PA. He was 86. Mr. Grimes was a resident of King of Prussia, PA, for almost 50 years. He served in the U.S. Navy as an electrician's mate during the Korean War, and was a Navy boxer and basketball player.  Joe also attended both Notre Dame and the former Drexel Institute of Technology, now Drexel University.  He worked as an electrician for many years at various companies including Philadelphia Gear, General Electric, Great Valley School District and Upper Merion School District.  He retired in 2005, after 20 years working as a Property Manager. Joe was a long time member of Mother of Divine Providence Church in King of Prussia, where he coached basketball, volunteered extensively, as well as teaching Christian Doctrine studies at night.   Born in Aliquippa, PA on March 13, 1929, he was a son of the late Paddy and Agnes Grimes. Surviving is his loving family including a son, Joseph P. Grimes, Jr. and his wife, Karen, of Villanova, PA; a daughter, Joanne T. Karkosak and her husband, Dave, of Elverson, PA; a grandson, Sean Grimes; two sisters, Sister Mary Cordia Grimes, CSJ and Sister Ursula Grimes, CSJ; and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John A. Grimes and Patrick J. Grimes; and a sister, Sister Brigid Grimes.   Joe's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Thursday, September 10, 2015 at 10:00 am. Officiating will be the Rev. Martin T. Cioppi, Pastor. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday morning from 9 to 9:50 am, at the church. Interment will be private in Calvary Cemetery, Lower Merion Twp., PA.   In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe's memory to the American Heart Association of Montgomery County, Memorial Fulfillment Center, 777 Penn Center Blvd., Suite 200, Pittsburgh, PA 15235 and/or Crossroads Hospice, 523 Plymouth Rd., Suite 225, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462.   Arrangements are by The Bacchi Funeral Home and Crematory, Ltd., Bridgeport, PA. www.bacchifh.com
