Joseph M. Korkus

Joseph M. Korkus, 90, formerly of Franklin Park Borough, PA and Lafayette Hill, PA, passed away May 25, 2017 at Paramount Senior Living in Cranberry Township, PA. Born March 22, 1927 in Bridgeport, PA, Joseph was a loving husband to Mary A. (Giannone) Korkus for 63 years. He was a loving father to Christopher (Lisa) Korkus, of Coraopolis, PA, Suzanne (Luis Ruiz) Korkus,of Mars, PA and Julia Korkus of Norwich, VT. He was a loving grandfather to Derek (Heather) Korkus, Jared Korkus, Alex Korkus and Natalie Ruiz. He was the oldest of 6 children. He is survived by his brother, George (Annette) Korkus; and his three sisters: Theresa (Joseph, deceased) Mann, Constance Henzler and Barbara (Robert) Smith. He has many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Francis Korkus, who is survived by his wife, Anne (Giannone) Korkus. Joseph attended Our Mother of Sorrows Church in Bridgeport, PA and is a graduate of West Catholic High School in Philadelphia. He studied architecture at Drexel Institute of Technology, now Drexel University. He was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Navy. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3327 in Bridgeport and a former Grand Knight. He was also a charter member of the Father Tomko General Assembly in Bridgeport. Joseph retired from Centria, formerly Elwin G. Smith and Company. He was a member of St. John Neumann Parish in Franklin Park Borough. On Saturday, June 3, 2017, a viewing will be held at Sacred Heart Church located at 120 Jefferson Street, Bridgeport, PA 19405 from 10:00 to 10:50 am; followed by an 11:00 am Funeral Mass. Interment will be at St. Augustine Cemetery in King of Prussia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Catholic Preparatory High School, 4501 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, PA 19139 and/or St. John Neumann Church, 2230 Rochester Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15237.
