Joseph "Gene" Mckeown

Joseph Eugene “Gene” McKeown passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at Arden Courts in King of Prussia, PA. He was 90 years old. Gene was a resident of King of Prussia, PA and a former resident of Dallas, PA. Gene was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during the Korean War era. He was a graduate of the University of Scranton. During his career, he was a manager for Sears Catalog and Retail stores, owned a family business and then ran the Hospitality Shop and Snack Bar at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital prior to retiring. Gene was an avid golfer and member of Irem Temple Country Club in Dallas, PA. Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA on March 20, 1932, he was a son of the late James and Mary (O’Brien) McKeown. Gene is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sheila (Atherholt) McKeown who died in 2006. Surviving are his loving family including daughters, Kelly Meneeley (Marv) and Katie Clements (Fiance, Burke Griffith); two grandchildren, Devon Meneeley and Kira Clements (Fiance Josiah Eustace); sister-in-law Rose (Robert) McKeown; brother-in-law, Joseph (Marilyn) Atherholt; and other loving family members. He is preceded in death by siblings: Anne McKeown, Robert McKeown, James McKeown and Marion Roski. Gene’s family will receive family and friends at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406 on Saturday, June 11, 2022 from 9:00am to 10:15am, with a eulogy beginning at 10:20am. The Funeral Mass will begin at 10:30am. Inurnment will be held privately at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre, PA at a later date.
