Joseph F. Montgomery, Jr.

Joseph F. Montgomery, Jr., a resident of King of Prussia, PA, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 16, 2016. He was a graduate of West Catholic High School, class of 1950. He earned a Bachelor of Arts from Villanova University as a NROTC scholar, class of 1954. After graduating, he served as a Lieutenant jg in the US Navy. Joseph was honorably discharged and attended the University of Pennsylvania, receiving his Master’s in English Literature. He worked as an English Teacher for the Community College of Philadelphia for many years. He enjoyed writing, art, chess, music and golf. Joe played many sports in his youth and in his later years enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 57 years, Janice M. (Coughlin) Montgomery; four children: Patricia M. (Thomas) Marshall, Adrianne M. (David) Reilly, James L. (Anne) Montgomery and Daniel F. Montgomery; seven grandchildren: Thomas, Christopher, Matthew, Jack, Kelley, Andrew and Patrick; and many nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joan M. Pignatelli. Joseph’s Memorial Mass will be celebrated at Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 1:00 pm. The family will receive relatives and friends on Saturday from 12 to 12:50 pm, at the church. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery, King of Prussia, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to Mother of Divine Providence Church, 333 Allendale Rd., King of Prussia, PA 19406.
