Joseph Arthur Piccirilli passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 20, 2016, surrounded by his loving family at his daughter’s residence in King of Prussia, PA. He was 96. Mr. Piccirilli was a former resident of Plymouth Meeting, PA. He retired as a maintenance worker for Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Joseph was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Black Horse, PA. He taught himself to play the guitar and later taught music for Wurlitzer. He also enjoyed singing and was a member of the band at the Senior Activity Center in Norristown, PA. Music was Joseph’s passion. He played guitar with Bill Haley and the Comets and later had his own band, the Joy Rangers. Joseph was a true entertainer with a great sense of humor. His favorite thing was spending time with his family. Joseph was a US Army veteran of WW II. He helped guard President Truman during the Potsdam Conference, while world leaders negotiated terms for ending the war. Born in Norristown, PA on September 16, 1920, he was a son of the late Lawrence and Angela (DeAngelis) Piccirilli. He was the husband of 60 years of the late Josephine Rose (Monteleone) Piccirilli, who died in 2011. Surviving is his loving family including 2 daughters, Laura Jean Heller and her husband, Walt, of King of Prussia, PA and Rosemary Piccirilli of Plymouth Meeting, PA; six grandchildren: Amy, Walt Jr., Frank, Kathryn, Abigail and Joshua; twelve great-grandchildren: Charmaine, Keira, Aubrey, Victoria, Isabella, Bella, David, Dominic, Shane, George, Christopher and King; a brother, Albert Piccirilli of Jeffersonville, PA; a sister Louise Basile of Plymouth Meeting, PA; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Veronica Sessa. Relatives & friends are invited to Joseph’s Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 454 Fairfield Rd., Plymouth Meeting, PA on Monday, September 26, 2016 at 11:00 am. His viewing will be on Monday from 9:30 to 10:50 am, at the church. Interment will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Norriton, PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s memory to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675.
