Joseph F. Sherkness

Joseph F. Sherkness passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2014, surrounded by his loving family at his residence in Bridgeport, PA. He was 85. Mr. Sherkness worked as a truck driver for the former Tose Trucking in Bridgeport, PA. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. Born in Mahanoy City, PA on September 1, 1928, he was a son of the late Joseph F. and Margaret (Lutz) Sherkness. Surviving is his loving family including his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth "Betty" (Antilozi) Sherkness; a son, Anthony M. Sherkness and his wife, Mary, of Plymouth Meeting, PA; five grandsons: Evan, Thomas, Michael, Joshua and Andrew; two great-grandchildren, Brooke & Kendale; two brothers, Albin Sherkness of Ashland, Maine and Robert Sherkness of Egg Harbor, NJ; three sisters: Helen Hedge of Woodbridge, CT, Martha Sherkness of Easton, PA and Patricia Sherkness of Mahanoy City, PA; and many other loving family members. He was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Sherkness; four brothers: Anthony, William, John & Edward; and a sister, Katherine Kokitus. Joseph's Memorial Service will be held at The Bacchi Funeral Home and Crematory, Ltd., 805 DeKalb St. (Rt. 202), Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Friday, June 13, 2014 at 7:00 pm. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday evening from 6 to 6:50 pm, at the funeral home.
