Joseph S. Wagner, 93, husband of Mary C. (Carosello) Wagner for 67 years, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, May 30, 2014. Joe was born on March 18, 1921 in Camden, New Jersey. He was raised in West Conshohocken and settled in Bridgeport, PA. He was the son of Wojciech and Victoria (Gimza) Wojnarowicz (AKA Wagner). He was an avid golfer, loved bowling, gardening, woodworking and was an accomplished baker and an all-around handyman. In his later years, Joe and his wife enjoyed spending time at both the Atlantic City and Valley Forge casinos. Joe was a member of the CCCS before entering the work force at Alan Wood Steel, where he stayed for 37 years, his final years as a roving operator. He also worked for Lukens' Steel Co. for 8 years, before his retirement at age 65. Joe was a member of CWV and the Bridgeport Senior Citizens. He worked the Camelot Bingo for many years. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Bridgeport, PA. He served his country with the 8th Infantry Division of the US Army. A survivor of the Battle of the Bulge, he earned a Silver Star, the third highest military decoration for valor! He attained the rank of First Lieutenant. He was also awarded a Purple Heart for being wounded in combat. Joe is survived by his loving family including his wife; two sons and daughters-in-law, David J. (Cathy Hoffman) Wagner and Robert J. (Theresa Pizza) Wagner. He was predeceased by a daughter, Eileen M. Wagner in 1967. He was also blessed with five grandchildren: Timothy, Karen, Mary Jo, Amanda and Elizabeth; and seven great-grand children: Lexie, Drew, Caleb, Noelle, Shane, Allison and Nuala. He was one of 15 children and is survived by a sister, Verna DeSantis, a brother, Stanley Wisniewski, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers: Benjamin, Stanley, Johnny, Anthony, & Walter; and sisters: Sophie, Adele, Helen, Eleanor, Wanda, Dorothy & Josephine. The family will receive relatives and friends on Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 8:30 to 9:50 am, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 502 Ford St., Bridgeport, PA. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10:00 am. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Lower Merion Twp., PA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Joe's memory to Einstein Montgomery Hospice, 559 W. Germantown Pike, E.
