Joseph A. Zeccardi Jr.

April 7, 1948 — December 11, 2024

Joseph A. Zeccardi, Jr., 76, of Jenkintown, PA, passed away after a brief illness and hospitalization on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.

Joe was born in 1948, the first son of Antoinette (Pistilli) and Joseph Andrew Zeccardi, Sr. JAZ JR grew up in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia, where his parents kept a corner grocery. He attended St. Michael’s Catholic School, Abington High School, and Valley Forge Military Academy Junior College.

A member of the US Army Reserves, he worked at the US Post Office in Dresher, then as a cashier at Continental Bank in 1970, working his way up to Senior Vice President of International Banking at PNC Bank, where he worked for 48 years.

Joe enjoyed musical theater, and was wont to whistle or sing his favorite lines from everything from Oklahoma and Fiddler on the Roof to The Wizard of Oz and All Dogs Go To Heaven. An avid and undaunted amateur carpenter, he built decks and docks, gardens and garages, porches and patios. A tireless organizer, he monogrammed just about everything he owned, from cars and keychains, to caps, cups, shirts, steaks, and everything in between. He could be found skiing the Pocono mountains, fishing with his kids and crabbing with his grandkids on the bays of Cape May County, and bantering with friends and relatives on the beaches in Ocean City, NJ. A proud son of Philadelphia, he typically took the SEPTA train downtown to work, to meet Rotary colleagues at the Union League, or to eat at Reading Terminal Market. An even prouder son of Italian immigrants, he favored red wine, red sauce, and roasted red peppers. Every meal he ate at home was the best he ever had, but the only ice cube he welcomed at his table came from Madonna’s Beverage in Glenside.

Joe, a member of Immaculate Conception BVM Church in Jenkintown and St. Augustine Church in Ocean City, NJ, is survived by Mary, his loving wife of 53 years, their sons, Joseph Andrew III, husband of Hilda Ma, Michael John, husband of Darreth Zeccardi, their daughter, Marina, wife of Daniel Williams, and five grandchildren: Bella, Elle, Luca, Ivy, and Gia. Also survived by his siblings Antonia Raleigh (Richard), Robert (Gina), Teresa, Marina (Richard Scache), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 9:15 to 10:15 AM and to his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM, both on Wednesday, December 18th, 2024 at Immaculate Conception BVM Church, 604 West Ave. in Jenkintown, PA, 19046.
