Bensalem

Juan Lara, 72, of Bensalem, PA, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 6th at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Born on June 6th, 1953, in El Banco, Magdalena, Colombia, Juan was the son of the late Flora (Vanegas) and José María Lara. He grew up alongside his sisters, Chemy and Irene, spending his childhood hunting, fishing, and exploring the community he loved so deeply. A voracious learner from an early age, he went on to study law, where he stood out for his sharp mind, generosity, and willingness to help others. The lessons he learned in those early years shaped the man he became.

Juan built a life defined by hard work, generosity, resilience in the face of adversity, and no matter the circumstance, an unwavering sense of humor. In recent years, he worked in transportation serving the elderly, a role he cherished and where he was known for his compassion and genuine care for others.

Outside of work, Juan lived a remarkably full life. He connected with more than 50,000 followers regularly on social media, where he promoted mental health for older adults and proudly shared stories and memories of his hometown. Above all, he was most proud of his grandchildren and never missed an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments with anyone who would listen.

Juan is survived by his sisters, Chemy and Irene, his son, Juan, his beloved grandchildren, Ada and Ben and the love of his life and partner of over 52 years, Soledad Lara.

A public viewing will be held from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, March 10th at Hoffmann Meyers Givnish Funeral Home, 1770 Brown Ave. (at Hulmeville Rd.) in Bensalem, PA.
