Kathleen Joan Rotondo (née Sokol) age 89, of Bridgeport, PA passed away on October 25, 2023. Her devoted family surrounded her with love for her last days. She is now at peace with God, whom she loved so much.
Kathleen grew up in Bridgeport, PA, attended Bridgeport High School (Class of ‘52) and then East Stroudsburg University, where she received a BA in Health and Physical Education. After graduation, she traveled through Europe, which left a lasting impression. She went on to marry her beloved husband of 58 years, Nicholas “Chief” Rotondo.
Kathleen was a loving and caring wife, mother, and mom-mom, who through example and faith, taught her children and grandchildren to be kind, empathetic, and resilient. She appreciated the joy, wonder, and beauty of life and happily helped care for all eight of her grandchildren. Throughout their childhood and adulthood, Kathleen offered her children wisdom and unwavering support.
Kathleen had a remarkable devotion to her faith. She was an active member of SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. She loved to sing hymns, respond in Ukrainian during mass, and support various church groups.
As an educator, Kathleen had an illustrious career–most of it spent at Upper Merion Area School District. She taught various subjects including Physical Education, Health, Typing, English and History. She was adored and remembered by students and colleagues alike.
Kathleen was predeceased by her parents, Mary (née Megless) Sokol, Ignatius Sokol and her sisters, Anna Burns and Mary Mulroy.
Kathleen is survived by her husband, Nicholas J Rotondo Sr.; her children, Nicholas Rotondo (Rebecca), Nadine Barnes (Kevin), and Jay Rotondo (Maryann Worrell) and predeceased by Dr. Noelle Rotondo (John Salus); her eight grandchildren, Caroline, Haley, Hanna, Olivia, Haven, Nicholas, Kendall & Devon; her nieces Maureen Burns and Michelle Burns.
Kathleen touched so many lives with her quick wit and sarcasm, spit-fire personality, constant faith, and generosity. She will be greatly missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service at SS. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA 19405 on Monday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m.; Visitation starting at 9am a.m. Burial will be private.
Donations will be happily accepted at SS. Peter & Paul’s Church for her years of service and dedication to the church. Her late parents Mary and Ignatius were founders of the church.
