Lawrence “Larry” Edward Loughlin, 92, of Lower Providence Township, PA, passed away peacefully at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood, PA on January 15, 2025. A member of St. Teresa of Avila Church in Audubon, PA. He worked as an accountant for Lee’s Carpets for many years. Larry was a United States Army Veteran having served as an MP in the Korean War.
Born in Bridgeport, PA on April 25, 1932, he was a son of the late Lawrence James and Grace Ann (nee Stong) Loughlin. He was the loving husband of Beatrix M. (Wolthuis) Loughlin, who passed away just a month prior on December 11, 2024.
Larry was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. A man known for his incredible work ethic, deep devotion, and boundless love for his family, Larry will be remembered for his unwavering support, kindness, and steadfast commitment to those he loved.
Larry cherished his role as a father and grandfather. He found great joy in attending his grandchildren’s events and activities, always ready to cheer them on from the sidelines and share in their accomplishments, especially when followed by a tailgate full of snacks and smiles. Family vacations were a special highlight, whether traveling the East Coast in the Winnebago, visiting northern states and Canada, or enjoying trips to Florida. Larry and his family spent memorable summers in Marmora, NJ, where they parked the Winnebago and enjoyed fishing and fun-filled days at the beach. He had a special love for travel, particularly later in life, when he and his wife, Bea, embraced their heritage during trips to Ireland and the Netherlands, creating cherished memories with relatives. No matter where life took him, Larry was always ready for an adventure—especially if it included a good meal.
A true DIY enthusiast, Larry was a master of home improvement long before YouTube was a thing! Whether tackling plumbing, roofing, electrical work, or other projects, he took immense pride in doing things himself. No project was too big or small, and though the end result may not always have been the prettiest, Larry always got the job done, saving money and improving his home in the process. Larry’s resourcefulness and determination were admired by all who knew him.
Larry’s work ethic was legendary. He started working at the early age of 10 as a caddy, often for Leonard Tose, future owner of the Eagles. Larry spent nearly five decades at Lee’s Carpets, rising from entry-level jobs to retire as Assistant Comptroller at 65. A dedicated employee, Larry rarely missed a day of work and would take on second jobs to ensure his children could graduate from college debt-free. His tireless commitment to his family provided the foundation for their success, and he took great pride in seeing them achieve their dreams.
A devout Catholic, Larry’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was dedicated to never missing a Sunday Mass, even streaming it on his phone when illness prevented him from attending in person. Larry was deeply involved in his parish, managing church finances, helping run weekly Bingo, church bazaars and other numerous activities. He also served as an assistant scoutmaster with the Boy Scouts, volunteered at the polls during elections, and was president of the Phoenixville Aquatics Club. His contributions to his community and church were profound and lasting.
As a devoted husband, Larry always put his wife Bea first, especially in her later years when she faced memory loss. His patience, love, and unwavering commitment to her well-being were evident every day. He ensured she was well cared for, a true testament to his devotion.
Known for his generosity, humility, and warmth, Larry was loved by all who knew him. A true “salt of the earth” man, his legacy of faith, hard work, and selfless devotion will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
Larry is survived by his children, Pamela Stephenson (Brent), Denise Boaz (Christopher), John M. Loughlin (Shirl Fitzpatrick), and Christopher Loughlin (Andrea); 12 grandchildren, Bryan, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Christopher, Harrison, Lucy, Molly, Alicea, Conall, Katie, Grace, and Gavin; six great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Walter Gaskin; as well as many other extended family members and friends.
