Leroy “Lee” J Downs passed away peacefully at home on April 24, 2017 in Audubon, PA. He was born in Latrobe, PA and as a child moved to Philadelphia, PA. While attending high school, he met the love of his life, Marie. They were married in 1959 at Good Shepherd Church, moved to Glenolden then to Audubon, PA. He was a graduate of West Catholic Boys in Philadelphia, PA, Class of 1955 and was a parishioner of Visitation B.V.M. in Trooper, PA. Born in Latrobe, PA on April 16, 1937, he was the son of the late Francis Patrick and Mary Roebeck Downs. Lee was the beloved husband of the late Marie Downs and is survived by his large loving family. It includes nine children, Teri Downs (King of Prussia), Christina “Tina” Downs (Aldan), Joseph “Joe” Downs and Monica (Trooper), Barbara Jean Giacalone (Sanatoga), David Downs and Brenda (Audubon), Robert “Bob” Downs and Nancy (West Chester), Kimberlee “Kim” and William Bossard (Havertown), Brian Downs and Jennifer (Locust Grove, VA), Staci Grayson and Russell (Lansdale); as well as 18 grandchildren, Amy (Sean), Mark John (Jackie), Maria, Daryl, Amanda (Jay), David Julian, Chiah, Kayla, Alexa, Anthony John, Zack, Dalton, Lee, Tyler, Brandon, Lee Richard, Sean, Samantha; 7 great grandchildren; and sister Mary Palestini. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie, his sister Eleanor and two brothers Fredrick and Francis. Lee enjoyed spending time with his growing family, relaxing with wine, enjoying time with the “Mockingbird Neighbors” and spending time in Avalon, NJ. He was a member of Commodore Bay Condo Association and Avalon Yacht Club. He was the proud owner and operator of George’s Checking Cashing in SW Philadelphia and involved with Police Athletic Association and YMCA. Relatives and Friends are invited to a viewing on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 6:00-9:00 pm at Szpindor-Meyers Funeral Home 101 N. Park Ave, Trooper, PA and on Friday, April 28, 2017 at Visitation BVM Church 196 N Trooper Rd, Eagleville, PA 19403 (lower church) from 9:45 – 10:45 am. A mass of Christian burial will follow on Friday at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society.
