Lloyd Michaels, age 74, on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at his home in Bridgeport, PA. Beloved husband of Mary Irene Maslayak and loving father of Lisa Ann Manning (Richard) of Pottstown, PA, Lloyd John Jay Michaels (Karen) of Limerick, PA; loving step-father to Timothy Stroudt (Allison) of Lenhartsville, PA and Catherine (Stoudt) Bidwell of Bridgeport, PA. He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Mahria Schiffert of West Virginia, Julianna, Isabella and Emmalea Michaels of Birdsboro, PA, Alicia, Rachael and Amber Michaels of Limerick, PA and Mackenzie Grace Stoudt of Lenhartsville, PA; two sisters, Catherine Cook (Fred) of Johnstown, PA and Cecilia Hess (Harry) of Ohio; three brothers, William Michaels (Phyllis), Claire Michaels (Darlene) of Vintondale, PA and Clifford Michaels (Carole) of Seward, NJ. Other relatives in Bridgeport include brothers-in-law, John and William Maslayak; cousins, Virginia and Joseph Plisiewicz; and many nieces and nephews and their children located in various portions of the United States. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Michaels and sister-in-law, Katherine. Born in Vintondale, PA on August 25, 1943, he was a son of Jay and Blanche (Hollenbaugh) Michaels. He completed his studies at Central Cambria High School before enlisting in the US Army in 1965. A veteran of the Vietnam Era serving with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, he was awarded the Purple Heart for one of the wounds he suffered during combat. Mr. Michaels was exposed to the deadly poison “Agent Orange” which ultimately caused severe damage to several organ systems which began to fail and ultimately led to his death. He was a lifetime member of the former Coates-Wafer VFW Post 840 in Bridgeport. At his death he was a member of the Valley Forge Post 7878 in Upper Merion. Mr. Michaels retired from his job as an extruder and expert finisher in the “white room” at Greene Tweed of Kulpsville, a thermoplastic industry, employed in the manufacture of specialty seals for the computer, oil and aerospace industries. He was a highly valued employee whose expertise was employed on the most sensitive and critical projects in his area. Mr. Michaels will be vastly missed by his relatives, friends and neighbors. Lloyd’s Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at SS. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 519 Union Ave., Bridgeport, PA on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:00 am. His family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 10 am, at the church. The family requests that no floral tributes be sent. Instead it is requested that donations in Lloyd’s memory can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517. www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
