Remembering

Lonnie Hamilton Jr.

A Brother is missing, from our hall. Lonnie Hamilton Jr., age 75, passed away on February 24th, 2025. He was born August 28th, 1949, in Augusta Georgia. To the late parents Lonnie Hamilton Sr. and Estelle Mims Hamilton. Lonnie married Luvenia Barnett, and during this union of marriage four children were born. He was a supportive and protective parent.

Lonnie worked in the Philadelphia Law Enforcement Officer, then later became a Building Engineer for the School District of Philadelphia where he retired.

He made his dedication to embrace the truth of God’s word, becoming one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. For many years he served as a regular pioneer and with Jehovah’s help, he assisted many individuals to appreciate Bible truths and to dedicate their lives to Jehovah as well. He served faithfully as an Elder at Wynfield Congregation and Overbrook Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses. As an Elder in the congregation, he loved shepherding the flock, as he took seriously the words found in 1Peter 5:2 “Shepherd the flock of God under your care, willingly before God”. He cherished his spiritual brothers and sisters and stuck close to Jehovah.

Lonnie always displayed active and meaningful concern for his family. As his daughter Tanya said “I fondly remember how as a young child dad loved and protected me. One day after my dad finished eating chicken, I went behind him to eat his food. But a bone got stuck in my throat. Dad picked me up and started to run with me on foot to the hospital. Until a taxi driver saw him and offered to take us the rest of the way. And throughout my life he was always deeply concerned about me, he was an amazing father.”

His daughter Carmella said “Many people don’t know how much dad loved science. He often talked about the universe and his amazement with it. He loved spending time with his grandkids and combining his love of science with spending time with them. But most importantly he loved teaching truths about our Creator found in the Bible. Once he went on a school trip to the Franklin Institute with his grandkids, and there was a mummy exhibit. When asked about the mummies by his grandkids, Dad recognized that this mummy was alive when Abraham was living. He also began to share this knowledge with strangers around him. They appreciated what he shared with them so much that they decided to accompany him around the museum so that they could learn more about the Bible”

His daughter Michelle said, “I knew a man, a hero, a man who loved running, he was a bodybuilder. But he was a man who made a choice to switch from running on Kelly Drive to walking on a narrow and cramped road and full of danger. The road Jesus spoke about at Matthew 7:14. The road to everlasting life, to live no longer for himself but a life of service to our creator the best life ever. My Daddy who we will see again 1Samuel 2:30 says “those honoring me I will honor.” We know that Jehovah will honor him when he brings him back to life.”

His son Lonnie III said “Dad was one of my best friends, he always understood me, and we could talk for hours at any time. He was always there in good times and rough seas, his love was loyal, it never dried up in the heat of the sun so to speak. Dad was a genuine man, strong outside but very soft on the inside, and I will miss him. I will also miss his expressions of his love for Jehovah and what he was learning about him, I look forward to seeing him again soon when he will live again on the paradise earth as God has promised those who have died (John 5:28,29)!

Lonnie is survived by his wife Luvenia, four children Tanya, Carmella, Michelle, and Lonnie III (Leonida). His eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and many loving cousins and spiritual family. He is dearly missed by all. Our beloved Brother and friend is missing from our hall Lonnie Hamilton.
