Louis Wall Merlini of Abington, Pennsylvania died March 6, 2024 surrounded by his wife and children at his home. Born in Philadelphia on December 17, 1948, Lou enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served in the Vietnam war. Lou fiercely loved his wife, children, and grandchildren, beaming about their smallest accomplishments to every stranger on the street. Lou’s compassion and love for others extended to everyone around him, but especially those struggling with addiction as a sponsor, as well as through his work with numerous treatment facilities. Lou had a lifelong thirst for knowledge, consuming endless volumes of books and even pursuing further education until his final days. Lou/Dad/Pop Pop, thank you for loving us so deeply and openly, we love you too and we will miss you always.
Lou was the oldest son and third child of Louis Anthony Merlini and Margaret Wall Merlini. He is survived by his seven brothers, Kevin, Mark, Meredith, John, Chris, Cornelius, and Peter, as well as his seven sisters, Sheila, Maris, Patti, Gerriann, Tina, Nora, and Meg. Lou is also survived by his wife, Karen, and children Kristin, Lou, Michael, and Molly and their respective spouses Sean, Joy-Lee, Bernice, and Tim. Lou was the proudest Pop Pop of his nine grandchildren, Connor, Olivia, Quinn, Isla, Harper, Blakely, Jack, Hudson, and Ellie.
Relatives and friends will be received by the family at McGoldricks Funeral Home, 507 West Ave., Jenkintown, PA on Sunday, March 10 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and Monday, March 11 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Funeral Mass to celebrate his life will begin at 10:30 am on March 11 at Immaculate Conception Church, 600 West Ave., Jenkintown, PA. Int. Holy Sepulchre Cem.
