Louis J. Sakasits

Louis J. Sakasits of Elkins Park Pa. passed away peacefully at his home on February 28, 2021 surrounded by his loving family at the age of 77. Born in Nazareth Pa. on March 3rd 1943 at the family home, he is the son of Louis Sakasits and Anna Sakasits(Nagy). Louis is survived by his love and life partner Esther Hawkins, his son Christopher, his brother Jimmy, and two sisters Anna and Donna. His love and passion for sports started at an early age. Louis and his brother could either be found in the yard playing stick ball or adjusting the antenna to get the Yankees game. After graduating from Norte Dame high school in 1961, Louis then moved to Philadelphia and attended St. Joseph's university where he received his B.S. degree in psychology in 1965. Another passion of Louis' was teaching. That career began after graduating from St. Joe's as a substitute teacher in the Philadelphia public school system. Shortly thereafter, Louis was drafted into the US Army in 1966 and served two years active duty working as a health specialist at the Army Research Institute of Environmental Medicine in Natick, Massachusetts after serving 11 months in Vietnam. After serving, Louis worked as a counselor for Horizon House social services counseling individuals having emotional problems in the transitional halfway house program. Louis returned to school in 1979, receiving his B.A. degree in Natural Science from Thomas Edison University in Trenton New Jersey. In 1985, Louis' dream of becoming a doctor came true as he received his M.D. degree from Grace University School of Medicine in British West Indies. Dr. Sakasits' career of teaching, counseling, and health and human services span a lifetime. He worked as a senior field representative for the department of health and human services in disease control in the Epidemiology division for the state of New Jersey. He briefly worked as a psychology services associate at the state correctional institution at Graterford performing psychological testing on inmates. He also taught at Philadelphia community college and Montgomery county community college for 28 years teaching various psychology courses before retiring in 2014. Louis spent his life educating, serving, and helping others both professionally and personally. His life is celebrated, appreciated, admired and dearly missed. Dad, I love you so much. I'm heartbroken without you, but I know we will be together again and forever. Thank you for everything you've ever said and done. I promise I will honor you and make you proud. Save a place next to you for me. Rest in paradise. Love your son and entire family.
