Lucie Elly Petersen

Petersen, Lucie Elly (nee van Vrijaldenhoven) of Audubon, PA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on July 24, 2020. She was 91 years old. Born in Paramaribo, Suriname, Lucie emigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen at the age of 17. She resided in New York for 53 years before moving to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family. She worked in NYC as an executive secretary, and later as a saleslady in major department stores. Lucie enjoyed playing cards, bus trips, Atlantic City outings, horse races, and going out to lunch. Some of her happiest times were aboard a cruise ship sailing in the Caribbean. She loved to dance and attend a party. In earlier years she also enjoyed reading a good mystery and knitting intricate sweaters for her daughter and grandchildren. She was the loving mother of Christine (Frank), and grandmother of Paul, Joseph, and Nicole. Lucie’s love, humor, and caring have been imprinted on the hearts of those lucky enough to call her Oma. Due to current public health restrictions, funeral arrangements will be private.
