Luis Blasco M.D. Luis was born in Tarragona, Spain on September 17, 1938. He died in Lower Merion, PA on October 23, 2023. Luis is survived by his sons Ian and Trevor, who he raised with his late wife of Marjeanne (Mimi) Collins Blasco, and his grandchildren Colin (23), Tate (22), Caroline (18) and Javier (4). He is also survived by his second wife Joann Fisher and her daughter Samantha. Luis immigrated to the United States in 1967 but always maintained close contact with his extended family and friends in Valencia, Spain. He is survived in Spain by his sister Nuria Blasco Garcia and his brother Miguel Blasco as well as their children Julian, Eva, and Ana. The Philadelphia area has been Luis’s home for the past 56 years and he lived in his home in Merion Station for the past 46 years. He remains close with Mimi’s extended family including her nephews Ed and Geoff Collins and her niece Ann Ryherd as well as their many children. Luis received his medical degree from the University of Valencia in Spain and later studied tropical diseases at the Prince Leopold Institute in Antwerp, Belgium. After completing his studies, Luis was hired by Unilever to serve as a doctor in a hospital in what is today Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo. After Africa, Luis came to America to study tropical diseases as the Department of Pharmacology of the University of Pennsylvania. Luis became an American citizen in 1970 and worked for over 30 years as a professor and doctor at Penn in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology where he was a pioneer in infertility medicine. Luis had a passion for life that was contagious. He loved adventure and remained an avid traveler his entire life. In addition to frequent trips back to Spain and throughout Europe, he travelled throughout Central and South America and throughout Asia. He also loved sports and was an avid soccer and tennis player his entire life. He spent much of his final years as an active member of the Germantown Cricket Club and had many close friends there. To his friends and family alike, Luis was always highly active, intensely competitive, passionate, and always authentic. He will be dearly missed.
