Margaret A. Bastian 9/5/1961 – 3/28/2016 Margaret “Peggy” A. (Devlin) Bastian, age 54 of Oreland, PA, passed away surrounded by her loving family on March 28, 2016 after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Peggy was the loving wife of Kevin Bastian, and the devoted and proud mother of their two sons, Sean and Dylan. Peggy was the daughter of the late John and Eleanor Devlin, and the youngest of six siblings in a large, tight-knit Philadelphia family: she was the dear sister of John Devlin, the late Kate Couturier, the late Bob Devlin, Betty Madden and Bill Devlin. Beloved sister-in-law of Drew Bastian, Nancy Hobbie and Wendy Bastian, she is also survived by the spouses of her siblings, who loved and welcomed Peggy as another sister: John’s wife Geri Devlin, Kate’s husband Lance Couturier, Bob’s wife Lisa Devlin, Betty’s husband Bill Madden and Bill’s wife Patty Devlin. In addition, she was the caring aunt of 13 wonderful nieces and nephews. Raised in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, Peggy graduated from Bishop McDevitt High School, then went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science at Gwynedd Mercy College. Upon graduating from college, she worked for Richardson-Vicks for many years, before transitioning to a position as a Computer Programmer for The Vanguard Group for the remainder of her career. All of Peggy’s family and friends knew she was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, and it was not uncommon for dinners and holiday events to be accented by her exclamations in support of (or disdain for) the Flyers’ latest endeavors. She loved gardening, the beach, cross-stitch, music, reading and exercising. She had a wonderful laugh, and a warmth and kindness that immediately set people at ease and made them feel welcome in her presence. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many friends. A celebration of her life will be held on Friday, April 1, 2016 at 11:30 AM at The Joseph J. McGoldrick Funeral Home, located at 507 West Avenue, Jenkintown, PA 19046 (http://mcgoldrickfh.com). The family will be receiving relatives and friends from 9:30 to 11:30 AM prior to the ceremony. Interment will take place during a private family ceremony at a later date.
