Marianne Lynch, BA, MA, JD Marianne Patricia Lynch passed away February 27, 2017 surrounded by her loving family and the staff of St. Joseph’s Manor, who treasured and cared for her for many years. She was 85. Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Thomas J. and Blanche (Lajeunesse) Lynch. She was the sister of Thomas Lynch, Jr. and Henry Lynch, both of whom preceded her in death. She was raised in Willow Grove, and later lived in Abington, Jenkintown, and Huntingdon Valley. She attended St. David’s Parochial School, Melrose Academy, and earned several degrees from Temple University (BA, English, 1953; JD (law degree), 1958; MA, Clinical Psychology, 1964). She is survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Suzanne Lynch (Tom) and Evelyn Lynch (Henry). She was the beloved aunt of 10 nieces and nephews: Laurie Myers (Dave), Christina Szperka (Doug), Dan Lynch (Caitlin), Kevin Lynch, Maureen Gaston, Kathleen Gelardi (Sam), Brian Lynch (Laura), Kelley Lynch, Colleen Lynch, and Erin Wigginton (Jim). She is also survived by 15 great nieces and nephews. Marianne was a well-respected college professor, teaching first at Muhlenberg College then for many years as an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the Community College of Philadelphia. For her lifelong dedication to teaching, Marianne received an award from the Behavior Sciences Department at CCP: “She is loved by her students and esteemed by her colleagues for her friendship, thoughtfulness, and spiritual strength. Our community has been enriched by her understanding, counsel, her kindness and her generosity.” Marianne was one-of-a-kind. She took direct care of children with significant intellectual and physical disabilities for many years, with her family, known as Lynch Homes. She was a breast cancer survivor of 23 years. Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life, attending Mass frequently; participating in the weekly prayer group at Our Lady Help of Christians for many years; and watching the Catholic Channel devotedly. She loved everyone’s animals, but especially her cat Clyde. Marianne loved to travel, and traveled to 20 countries. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 9:30 to 10:15 AM and to celebrate her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM on Thursday March 2, 2017 both at Our Lady Help of Christians, 1500 Marian Road Abington PA. Her Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave., Philadelphia, PA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Marianne’s memory to the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart at 14500 Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19116-1188 or greynun.org.
